Louie's Wing
About Louie Bucklin.
- Background
- Louie Spooner Bucklin was born in Crystal, Minnesota. She spent her early childhood growing up in northern Anoka County, MInnsota, where she loved the woods and wetlands, and all the creatures that lived there. Her father taught her her first piano tunes at the age of about three, with her on his lap. She began piano lessons at the age of 5 and joined the Children's Choir at the age of 7. Her father was a musician who played piano, guitar, and, among other things, the saw.
Her family moved in 1962,and she continued piano studies for a few more years. She became a percussionist in fifth grade, and continued that in junior high, playing in both the school band and orchestra. Louie loved the folk music that became popular in the mid-60's, but loved the Beatles even more. Her parents relented and got her an acoustic guitar in 1968. While she loved playing the guitar and singing, singing has always been her first musical love.
She found the MInneapolis science fiction fan circle in 1970, after meeting a member of MinnStf at her college orientation and attended her first meeting that same night. Nate was there, on the front steps, playing his guitar. Their lives headed in different directions, and was not until a decade later that they became involved.
Louie married in 1983, had two children, and years passed, with occasional contact with Nate. In 2000 they began to meet regularly, with Nate giving her lessons on the electric bass, and they were married in 2002 after her first marriage ended. Music was a big part of what drew them together, and they became regulars at SF convention and party music circles. They have performed in assorted public venues, and Louie produced Nate's second CD, 'Water Over the Bridge'. Louie lives in South MInneapolis with Nate, their cats, Louie's mice, and Louie's son, James.
